The perfect brew is hard to achieve from the comfort of our homes in today’s ever busy world. We are all trying to multi-task throughout the day and Cuppa is designed to help busy individuals to make perfect tea or coffee. A clean interface that offers an intuitive experience for at home brewing. Check the time, current temperature and connectivity status all with a quick glance or from the convenience of your phone.

Sketches

In order to explore form and body style I did a series of sketches. I had to consider the manufacturing limitations along with the efficacy of the kettle which meant some of the more dynamic ideations wouldn’t be applicable for a speedy and efficient kettle despite their more interesting form.

Models

In order to continue form development, I created a set of small models. This was a quick exploration and investigation that helped inform my design and inspired me moving forward.

1:1 Model

In order to fully understand the form and constraints of the kettle, I constructed a 1:1 scale model using my trusty family kettle for reference. This was a very informative process and led me into conducting a more in-depth investigation regarding handles and the ergonomics required for effortless pouring / filling.

Behavioral Prototyping

My 1:1 model led me into conducting a more in-depth investigation regarding handles and the ergonomics required for effortless pouring / filling. I used a variety of tools to create a small jig that replicated the weight of a kettle with 2-3 cups of water inside. I then made several handles to test with the simulated weight and find out where to focus.
